Can’t really believe that we only have 1 week left until we close our doors. The good thing about it though is that we are seeing a lot of people that we haven’t seen for years who are popping in to say goodbye.
We’ve had a great week, quite emotional at times but with lots of laughing as well. Once again it’s been like the run up to Christmas which is really unusual for this time of year when it is normally a bit quiet. It was also Valentines day early on this week so we had lots of couples coming in for a bit of romance and Costanzo was treated to a beautiful jar of home-made cookies from one of our customers, Mrs Todd, with a lovely hand written message attached in the shape of a heart, how kind! Thank you so much Mrs Todd, the cookies are still intact and we will devour them over the weekend with a nice cup of tea!
We also had a visit from our lovely stockbrokers, yes I know that lovely and stockbrokers are not normally words you hear in the same sentence but in this case it’s true! Some of them we haven’t seen in years because they are now based in London so it was a big surprise for Costanzo when they walked in having made a 400 mile round trip just to say goodbye. Bearing a lovely gift of a great bottle of wine for Costanzo, which was very much appreciated, they treated us to an evening of hilarity when all the old jokes were dug out and a few great new ones as well. Costanzo really appreciated the effort they all made to come up to say goodbye and rest assured, we’ll be in touch as soon as we know of our opening date so that all of them can make the big trip up again for our opening night later on in the summer.
Lots of late nights coming up over the next week, this weekend will be packed full so we are really going out on a high. We’re really going to have to dig out the match sticks for our eyes going by the bookings we have for next week though. Lots of Last Suppers coming up, many of them big parties, meaning The Caprese will be getting the fantastic send-off it deserves. If you are coming in next week, bring your camera and record the end of an era. All of our old photos will be coming with us and will have their own special place in our new restaurant (Costanzo says he will hang them in the toilets, he may be joking, he may not!). Hope to see many of you next week for our final goodbye, back soon!
